2024 Summer Leadership Opportunities

Who We Are Looking For:

Putney Student Travel seeks candidates to co-lead small groups of students (ranging from 6th-12th grade) to destinations all over the world.  Our programs range from two to six weeks and fall into the categories of Language, Career, Exploration, Service, and Pre-College Enrichment. Putney also hires summer staff for our collaboration with Smithsonian Student Travel. Most positions are for candidates that will hold at least an undergraduate degree by May 2024, or have considerable professional experience related to the program theme.  We encourage all candidates to apply! Candidates will be considered for all available positions for which they qualify.

Where We Travel:

Putney and Smithsonian Student Travel programs take place across six continents and over 30 countries.  Candidates should have significant travel or living experience in the destinations they apply for.

Qualifications and Skills:

Leaders must be passionate about working and living with students 24/7 in a wide range of situations and settings.  Leaders fill a variety of roles including mentor, friend, educator, authority figure, and more.  Due to the high degree of independence and responsibility granted to leaders, successful candidates must have a substantial capacity to self-motivate, organize, educate, and collaborate. Past leaders agree that the most important skills to possess include a strong desire to work with youth, flexibility, enthusiasm, energy, patience, and a sense of humor.

Leaders receive a stipend in addition to having all expenses paid during their program. Leaders are responsible for their own health insurance, required to be certified in Basic First Aid and CPR at their own expense, and fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  All leaders are required to attend training prior to departure.  Interviews are held between December and April until all positions have been filled. These are highly competitive positions so please consider applying early in our hiring cycle.
