Summer Camp Director Job Description & Requirements

 

Camp Director Job Description 

The CT Cycling Advancement Program is seeking an enthusiastic camp director to manage our summer mountain bike and road cycling camps. In this role, your duties will include designing suitable recreational activities, ordering camp supplies, and training camp employees. Your duties will also include overseeing daily operations, leading rides and activities, and interfacing with facility management.

To ensure success, camp directors should exhibit experience in developing camp curricula and demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of a camp. Outstanding candidates prioritize the safety of all campers and ensure an excellent camp experience.

 

Camp Director Responsibilities:

  • Consulting with CCAP Staff to determine camp requirements, including all State of CT reporting requirements.

  • Developing a camp curriculum with level-appropriate cycling and recreational activities.

  • Planning daily camp rides, activity schedules, and downtime activities.

  • Presenting camp information to prospective parents and campers, when required.

  • Hiring camp employees, including ride leaders, recreation and/or sports specialists, and camp counselors and/or counselors-in-training.

  • Overseeing all camp employees, accommodations, and meals, as well as ensuring the wellbeing of campers.

  • Managing the allocated budget, as well as ordering camp equipment and supplies.

  • Ensuring safe practices and a healthy camp environment, including adherence to SafeSport policies.

  • Keeping records and documenting processes in line with CCAP standards.

 

Camp Director Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience as a camp director managing similarly structured camps or educational programs.

  • Experience in planning and developing camp curricula, as well as modifying activities when required.

  • Advanced ability to hire, train, and oversee camp employees, as well as ensuring the campers' wellbeing.

  • Experience in working with children in a camp setting, as well as arranging camp accommodations, meals, supplies, and equipment.

  • Ability to manage budgets and monitor expenses.

  • Proficiency in office software.

  • In-depth knowledge of mountain and road cycling, as well as general bicycling safety.

  • Ability to document processes and perform recordkeeping.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to ride a bicycle at an advanced level for extended periods of time for at least four (4) consecutive days.

  • A clean driving record.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation: $850/session

  • Room and Board for duration of camp(s)
