Distribution Center Location Manager
Summary
The DC Location Manager is responsible for movement of product company-wide including receiving, inventory tracking, and fulfillment to our physical locations and DTC customers. This person sees the big picture at the DC and understands how to work cross-functionally with all stakeholders to keep all the elements working together smoothly. Effective team leadership, maintaining the company’s culture, and reinforcing company values is critical to success in this role. This is a full-time salaried position that reports directly to the COO/CFO.
Next Adventure comprises five Oregon locations: our flagship store on SE Grand & Stark, Paddle Sports Center on SE 7th Ave, Scappoose Bay, Sandy, and online at NextAdventure.net. The new DC Location Manager will be joining us at an exciting time as we move out of our original warehouse into a state of the art facility that will unite our DC and home office HQ into one location. The new DC is a blank slate for you to develop and manage in support of our company goals and values.
Job Responsibilities
-
LEADERSHIP:
-
Demonstrated ability to articulate a clear vision to engage and influence people across all levels of the Distribution Center
-
Lead a team of Assistant Managers responsible for one or more of the key DC functions: receiving, replenishment, fulfillment, and inventory control.
-
Develop, measure, and report on DC KPIs to ensure accurate and efficient receiving, replenishment, fulfillment, and inventory control.
-
Develop and implement solutions to reduce our environmental impact in all aspects of our DC operations - receiving, replenishment, and DTC fulfillment.
-
Ensure that staff has the appropriate tools, knowledge, and training to accomplish daily tasks.
-
Interview, hire, supervise, review, and take disciplinary actions as needed with all DC staff.
-
Schedule weekly staff and forecast seasonal staffing needs to ensure the DC is neither understaffed, nor overstaffed at all times.
-
Creates and leads daily staff meetings, training, team building events and personnel development for the broader DC team.
-
Foster a culture of accountability by leading by example, having performance based conversations, and utilizing standardized documentation systems.
-
Attend daily, weekly and monthly meetings as needed. Consistently bringing actionable items to meetings to better the work environment and make staff more effective.

Ensure company policies are followed at all times.

INVENTORY CONTROL:
-
Oversee the accurate and efficient movement of product in and out of the Distribution Center, including large off-site sales events.
-
Develop processes to ensure inventory control and accounting accuracy in the receiving, transfering, and shipping functions.
-
Work with Location Managers to develop and implement company-wide inventory control, including regular cycle counts.
-
Establish, measure, and report on company-wide inventory control KPIs.
-
Conduct annual or as-needed full physical inventory.
-
Develop processes and systems for Consolidation and space management to ensure efficient placement of all stock.
-
Develop processes for identifying stale inventory and empower the DC team to work with the Location Managers and buying team to achieve sell through.
-
LOGISTICS:
-
Negotiate, manage, audit, and report on annual shipping contracts for freight and small package inbound and outbound shipping.
-
Develop systems to Manage the supply, storage, and movement of store fixtures by season.
-
Forklift and scissor lift maintenance and training.
-
Oversee maintenance and scheduling of both owned and leased vehicles.
-
Constant monitoring of all inbound and outbound freight vendors for price and terms.
-
Work cross-functionally with other teams to develop systems for delivering actionable feedback on product data accuracy.
-
Work with OSHA, and Next Adventure’s internal safety committee to ensure a safe working environment for all staff working in or entering the DC.
-
Develop systems for managing internal supplies - ensuring that orders meet the optimal thresholds for discounts, track inventory, and distribute to locations efficiently.
-
Coordinate with our monitoring company to respond to alarms at any hour.
-
Open and close the DC on given days.
-
Ensure orderly and safe conditions at all times. Ensure proper working condition of work areas, grounds, trucks, tools, fixtures and equipment; arrange for repairs/replacements as needed.

FULFILLMENT:
-
Develop systems to deliver the amazing Next Adventure experience in every DTC order fulfilled.
-
Define KPIs and benchmarks to measure success. Ensures a seamless in store and e-commerce fulfillment experience while controlling costs and maximizing efficiency.
-
Maintain control of all outbound product movement.
-
Develop and maintain a high level of competency using our fulfillment software systems.
-
Create and maintain quality control systems including product standards and fulfillment accuracy.
-
Develop scalable systems for peak season.
-
Develop and track budgets for DC supplies, including internal consumable and shipment packaging
-
Manage, delegate, and participate in daily auditing of all orders
Qualifications
-
Minimum five years warehouse management, shipping, and retail experience.
-
Demonstrated excellence in effective problem solving.
-
A positive, highly-effective communicator.
-
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Next Adventure’s values, culture, policies, procedures, and systems
-
Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
-
Experienced in the legal and common sense aspects of distribution center safety.
-
Proficient with Microsoft, Google, Asana, ShipStation, POS systems, and other internal software applications.
-
Able to be highly effective at both “big picture” and “detail oriented” levels of their responsibilities.

Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Light to moderate lifting, with reasonable accommodation. Standing for long periods of time.
