Assistant Director Job Description & Requirements

The Jackson Hole Kayak Club, a registered 501c(3) non-profit, is seeking an Assistant Director to help administer its youth kayaking programs in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director and assist in all aspects of the organization and help consistently provide safe, enjoyable and enriching programs for its participants. This is a seasonal position, starting in June and ending in October. There is an opportunity for transitioning into a year-round position for the following year/season.

Qualifications for the prospective candidate include:

  • Current Level III or higher American Canoe Association certified whitewater kayak instructor, or ability to gain similar instructional certification

  • Current Wilderness First Aid or higher certification, or ability to gain similar certification

  • Current Swiftwater Rescue training, or ability to gain similar certification

  • At least 2 years experience instructing whitewater kayaking at a variety of skill levels

  • Strong and professional interpersonal skills and experience working with children and parents

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

  • Experience working and teaching in outdoor, backcountry settings

  • Clean driving record and ability to drive a large van with trailer

  • Ability to work in the United States of America

  • Stoke, lots of it!

 

The prospective candidate will be expected to work with the Executive Director to:

  • Develop and run instructional whitewater kayaking programs on rivers ranging from Class I to Class V

  • Assist with the organization of recreational, competitive and community events

  • Participate in fundraising opportunities, including grant writing

  • Always promote the activities and mission of the organization

  • Recruit and manage paid staff and volunteers

  • Keep the whitewater stoke high!

 

Compensation

  • Salary is commensurate with experience, total compensation is a combination of a base salary, leading additional weekly kayaking sessions, and overnight trips throughout the instructional season. 

  • Access to supplementary work instructing kayaking and retail sales at Rendezvous River Sports/Jackson Hole Kayak School (https://www.jacksonholekayak.com/en/, the greatest kayak shop in the West)

  • Access to a wide array of industry incentives and pro-forms within the paddlesports world

 

The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who is passionate about kayaking and sharing that motivation to foster the growth of the Jackson Hole Kayak Club as a sustainable and service oriented non-profit organization. Start date is flexible from early May to June 1st, based on the candidate’s availability.
